About Me
I’m Dr Chris Critoph, a Consultant Cardiologist working in Bournemouth, Dorset. My specialist training took me through leading teaching hospitals in London and Australia, and in 2015 I made Dorset my home, moving here with my wife and our two young children.
I have extensive experience in diagnosing and managing heart conditions, and am part of a small group of UK specialists with expertise in both inherited heart disease and sports cardiology.
At the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, I lead the clinical service for heart failure. I also run rapid access clinics for people experiencing symptoms such as chest discomfort, shortness of breath or palpitations – often with the ability to arrange same-day consultations.
I provide specialist heart assessments for individuals with a family history of cardiac problems, even if they have no current symptoms. This is an important area of my work, as many heart attacks occur unexpectedly in people whose only recognised risk is their family background.
Alongside my clinical duties, I am committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of Cardiologists.
Away from the hospital, I’m a self-confessed health enthusiast who strives to practice what I preach. I aim to optimise every aspect of my lifestyle with the goal of living fully and maintaining long-term wellbeing. My daily exercise routine is carefully structured, and I particularly enjoy weight training, golf, cycling and swimming.
I place a high value on stress management, meditate every day, and am passionate about cooking – often spending hours in the kitchen creating meals from fresh, whole-food ingredients for my family. While I recognise that my approach to healthy living is at the more dedicated end of the spectrum, I take great satisfaction in helping my patients discover habits that suit their own lives and improve their quality of life.
