Meet Dr Chris Critoph

My name is Dr Chris Critoph, and I am a Consultant Cardiologist based in Bournemouth, Dorset. I trained in cardiology at major teaching hospitals in London and Australia, before moving to Dorset in 2015 with my wife and 2 children.

Throughout my career, I’ve combined evidence-based medicine with a strong belief in the power of lifestyle and prevention. My goal is to help people live longer, healthier and more active lives through a personalised approach that blends modern science with practical daily habits.

My Philosophy on Health and Wellness

There are many ways to define wellness. I like this one:

“Wellness is the act of practising healthy habits on a daily basis to attain better physical and mental health outcomes, so that instead of just surviving, you’re thriving.”

Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of that journey — not for appearance, but for heart health, energy and longevity.

Modern research has introduced new medical tools to support people struggling with weight management. Used appropriately and alongside lifestyle change, these can sometimes help individuals make meaningful progress. At Coastal Cardiology, any consideration of medical therapy always takes place within a full clinical assessment, focusing on safety, suitability and long-term habit building.

Why Choose a Consultant-Led Approach?

Many patients tell me they value the reassurance of care from an established, CQC-registered medical practice rather than anonymous online providers. My service includes:

  • Comprehensive assessment of heart and metabolic health
  • Review of blood pressure, cholesterol and current medications, with advice on optimisation and an intention to reduce pill burden where appropriate
  • Ongoing follow-up and monitoring included to maximise safety and results
  • Guidance on nutrition, physical activity and stress management
  • Access to the Coastal Cardiology Members’ Area, offering reliable, evidence-based information

Practising What I Preach

I’m a firm believer in leading by example. I design my own daily routine to support health and longevity — combining strength training, golf, cycling and swimming, together with meditation for stress management. I’m also an enthusiastic home cook, spending time each week preparing fresh, whole-food meals for my family.

While everyone’s lifestyle looks different, my aim is to help each patient discover practical, sustainable habits that improve wellbeing and fit their life.

My Blog

For many years, I’ve written a weekly blog exploring topics across heart health, wellness, and longevity — sharing practical, evidence-based insights that readers can apply to their everyday lives. Over time, this has grown into a members’ site with an extensive library of articles and videos on a wide range of health topics.

Feedback from members has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing meaningful lifestyle changes such as improved fitness, better nutrition, and greater awareness of cardiovascular risk factors.

As part of my commitment to education, all patients under my care are given complimentary access to the members’ area. This includes weekly articles, video content, and summaries of the latest medical research on weight management, cardiovascular prevention, exercise science, and healthy ageing — written in clear, practical language.

There is a great deal of misinformation online, and my goal as a practising NHS consultant with a background in medical research is to provide clear, trustworthy information that helps people make informed decisions about their health.
